What is a service authorization?

A Service authorization is the municipality's permission for one service, to one provider, for a stated period. New York does not issue a separate notice object.

A Service authorization is the Early Intervention Official's permission for a specific service, to a specific provider, for a specific period, on the frequency, length, and location terms the state system supplies. One authorization covers one service. Adding another service means another authorization.

The authorization number is generated only after the official approves and the agency accepts. Until both happen, there is no number to copy. An issued authorization can omit frequency or session length, especially for evaluation work. Record the facts the state supplied and leave missing terms missing.

There is no separate notice object in the current state system. The retired statewide system used different vocabulary. The authorization itself is the record. Claims later stand or fall on whether a session sat inside an accepted authorization.
